Karin Kirkpatrick is proud to be a long-time resident of North Vancouver where she lives with her family.  She was honoured to be elected in 2020 to serve her community as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for West Vancouver-Capilano.

 

Karin was born in Toronto and grew up in Edmonton. She moved to Vancouver to pursue a music career but, like many young musicians, decided to return to school.

 

After starting her own small business, Kirkpatrick Staffing, she continued to pursue her accounting designation (CMA) and to complete an MBA in human resources.

 

Karin sold her company in 2001 and held a variety of roles over her career. She spent six years as Assistant Dean in the Sauder School of Business at UBC. She was CEO of the Real Estate Foundation, headed a provincial crown corporation, and most recently, was the CEO of Family Services of Greater Vancouver.

 

Karin has spent time in China teaching and travelling. After many language courses, she still struggles with her Mandarin, but won’t give up learning.

 

From 2011 to 2018, she was a member of the Judicial Council of British Columbia. She has also been a Director of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, Family Services of Canada, the Vancity Community Foundation, and the BC Council for International Education.

 

Karin has been recognized for her leadership as a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA), as one of the Women’s Executive Network’s 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, and as a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.

 

As a believer in life-long learning, she graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2016 with her Master of Laws in International Law and Practice.

 

Karin has not forgotten her musical roots and continues to play with a local band.
